Buemi grabs top six and banks a solid points haul for Envision in Shanghai
The Shanghai weekend showed Sébastien Buemi two sides of motorsport, a top level qualifying performance on Saturday and a controlled race on Sunday, delivering valuable points for Envision Racing along the way.
On Saturday, a tightened schedule forced the team to run FP2 and qualifying earlier than planned. Hampered by difficult practice sessions and Attack Mode activation issues, Sébastien still raised his game when it mattered. Third in his group, he made it through to the duels and lost out by just two tenths to Jake Dennis, securing sixth on the grid, his best qualifying result in several races. In the race, he battled inside the top 10 for a long stretch before a lack of balance after his Pit Boost robbed him of pace and dropped him to eighteenth. His teammate Joel Eriksson rescued the team's day by climbing to seventh in front of the Envision Group home crowd.
On Sunday, on a track made treacherous by the rain, Sébastien produced his best drive of the weekend. Up to twelfth after the opening lap, he was the first to activate Attack Mode, passing Taylor Barnard then Jake Dennis to move into fifth. Despite a brief half spin on lap twenty, he held his position to the chequered flag and brought home a solid fifth place. A result that rewarded his consistency across a demanding weekend, rounded off by his teammate's maiden Formula E podium.
Envision Racing leaves Shanghai with a strong points tally and confirmation that Buemi is finding his rhythm as the season heads into its final rounds.
