A Cruel Weekend for Envision in Berlin Despite a Promising Saturday

Envision Racing’s Berlin weekend ends in contrast. Despite a promising start and a strong top-seven finish for Sébastien Buemi in Saturday’s race, Sunday’s round ended in disappointment with a double retirement for the team, both cars falling victim to an extremely rare technical incident.

Saturday: a masterful comeback from Buemi
Unable to take part in qualifying due to a technical issue, Buemi started from the back of the grid and had to serve a 10-second penalty during the race. Despite the handicap, the Swiss driver showcased all his experience and control in tricky wet conditions. With a well-executed strategy and clever use of Attack Mode, he carved his way through the pack to finish in seventh place and score valuable points.

His teammate Robin Frijns, who had secured a remarkable front-row start, fought in the leading group for much of the race. However, traffic and a missed opportunity to fully benefit from his final Attack Mode saw him drop down to 13th by the flag.

Sunday: misfortune strikes twice
The second race of the weekend held great promise for the green-liveried cars. Frijns lined up P4 on the grid, while Buemi – who had shown good pace in free practice – started 17th with hopes of charging through the pack.

But after a strong first half, things took a dramatic turn. On Buemi’s #16 car, a piece of debris struck the emergency fire extinguisher trigger, automatically activating the system and forcing the car to a halt. In a cruel twist, Frijns suffered the exact same fate just a few laps later while running in the top 10 – a near-unprecedented double blow for the team.

Focus turns to London
With only a few points salvaged thanks to Buemi’s result on Saturday, Envision Racing remains ninth in the Teams’ Championship, while Sébastien Buemi holds on to 10th place in the Drivers’ standings. With two rounds to go, the team now looks ahead to the season finale in London on July 20–21.
