Buemi Completes the Podium as TOYOTA RACING Sweeps a Legendary Le Mans
Some races etch themselves into memory. The 94th Le Mans, round three of the 2026 FIA World Endurance Championship, was one of them. In front of 350,105 spectators, TOYOTA RACING delivered one of the closest and most unpredictable editions in years, claiming its sixth win in the great French classic.
Starting from modest grid positions after a disappointing Hyperpole, both TR010 HYBRIDs committed to an aggressive fuel strategy, pitting earlier than their rivals to exploit a clear track. The gamble pushed both cars into the top six, backed by a string of fastest laps.
The #8 of Sébastien Buemi, Brendon Hartley and Ryō Hirakawa led the early stages thanks to that alternative approach. But an off track moment in the ninth hour, a drive through penalty near half distance and a brake drum repair turned the recovery into hard work. A safety car with under six hours to go reset the field and opened a four car fight at the front. With three hours left, bold passes from Hartley and de Vries handed TOYOTA a one two lead. Buemi battled for second until a final tyre change in the closing hour dropped him to third, 20.417 seconds behind the winner.
The #7 took the victory, Buemi rounded out the podium. A team result that stretches TOYOTA's manufacturers' lead to 36 points. The focus now shifts to the 6 Hours of São Paulo at Interlagos on 12 July.
