Buemi and the TR010 HYBRID make history with debut victory at Imola
A 50th WEC victory, a 100th race with hybrid power, and a triumphant debut for a brand-new car, Sébastien Buemi and TOYOTA GAZOO Racing could not have scripted a better start to their 2026 FIA World Endurance Championship campaign.
At Imola, in front of a record-breaking crowd of 92,175, the #8 GR010 HYBRID driven by Buemi, Brendon Hartley and Ryō Hirakawa controlled the 6 Hours from start to finish. After Hirakawa seized the lead early in the third hour, Buemi took over for the decisive stint. With the #51 Ferrari refusing to back down, the Swiss driver set a relentless pace, stretching the gap lap after lap. When rain and wind swept across the circuit in the closing stages, he kept his composure, crossing the line 13 seconds clear with flawless control.
Behind them, the #7 of Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and Nyck de Vries secured third place, giving the team a double podium on Ferrari's home turf. The victory puts Buemi and his teammates at the top of both the manufacturers' and drivers' standings ahead of the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps on May 9, the final dress rehearsal before the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
"It's a great story, taking our 50th victory on our 100th race, on Ferrari's doorstep and for the debut of the TR010 HYBRID. A lot of credit goes to the team for their outstanding work. The execution today was excellent, I'm very proud of everyone." – Sébastien Buemi
