Sebastien and Envision Racing World Champion 2023!
To bring the 2023 season to a close, the Formula E GEN 3 travelled to London, to this unique circuit with its indoor and outdoor configuration. Sébastien Buemi started the weekend with a very good pace in free practice, and this performance enabled him to reach the semi-finals of the qualifying duels. For the first race of the double header weekend, Sébastien started from third on the grid.
The final weekend of the ABB Formula E World Championship was intense and full of twists and turns, with the drivers' and constructors' championships still being contested. Sébastien got off to a good start in the first race and managed to overtake Jake Dennis to take second place. The race was full of twists and turns and a misunderstanding between the Envision Racing drivers cost Sébastien's team-mate Nick Cassidy the race and resulted in a safety car. Sébastien continued the race at a steady pace, before Nissan driver Norman Nato collided with him in an over-optimistic overtake. This incident resulted in a red flag, but Sébastien set off again for the final laps of the race, determined to take home some big points for the constructors' championship. Sébastien Buemi finished the race in third place, taking his first podium of the 2023 season and putting Envision Racing level on points with Jaguar Racing.
At the last race of the year, the whole Envision Racing team is motivated to clinch the manufacturers' title and Sébastien confirmed the pace he had at the start of the weekend with a third fastest time in FP3. In qualifying, the two Envision Racing drivers qualified P1 and P3 in Group A, but Sébastien stopped in the quarter-finals of the duels by 0.008s and will start from seventh on the grid. The British weather greatly delayed the start, with the track too wet and impassable. When the race got underway, it promised to be an intense affair, with the track soaking wet on the outside and dry on the inside.Nick Cassidy won the race and Sébastien finished sixth, which enabled Envision Racing to win the manufacturers' championship, 8 points ahead of Jaguar Racing. This very good weekend enabled Buemi to move up to sixth place in the drivers' championship.
"It's the first time that Envision Racing has won a title. As for me, I moved up two places in the drivers' championship to finish sixth. I'm a bit disappointed to finish in sixth place with the performance we had this year, but I finished the season well with my podium on Saturday. We ended the championship on a high note with Nick's victory on Sunday and the constructors' title. It was a tough and long first season with Envision Racing, with its ups and downs, but the whole team deserves this victory, and I'm looking forward to seeing them again next year for the tenth season of the ABB Formula E World Championship" Sébastien Buemi
Sébastien Buemi ends the 2023 season of the ABB Formula E World Championship on a high note with his first podium of the season, sixth place in the drivers' standings and victory for Envision Racing in the constructors' standings.
