A new podium in Shanghai
Sébastien Buemi, Kazuki Nakajima and Brendon Hartley, in the #8 TS050 HYBRID, took a three-point lead in the drivers' World Championship by finishing second behind the winning Rebellion #1. The World Championship leaders, competing with the maximum success handicap, faced a significant challenge from the non-hybrid LMP1 cars but minimised the damage by delivering a patient race and making up time in the pit stops.
“I am happy with today's race because we did a good job in general; I don't think we could achieve more than this. We did the best we could and had a clean race; all of my team-mates did a great job, so I am pleased. Congratulations to Rebellion on the victory. I hoped we would have an opportunity to fight with them but they didn't make any mistakes and we didn't have the speed.” Sébastien Buemi
